President Yoon Suk Yeol announced the extraordinary move amid a bitter fight with the political opposition, and protesters clashed with police outside the assembly.
Hours after President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea declared emergency martial law on Tuesday, the National Assembly voted to lift it, in a swift rebuke of the president’s drastic response to the political deadlock that has hobbled his tenure.
It was not immediately clear how the president or military would respond to the vote. But Mr. Yoon’s announcement of martial law, which banned “all political activities” and enabled him to take command of the news media, set off protesters clashing with the police outside the National Assembly.( Read more ...)
